Tooth!

Your first tooth has poked through! We're not exactly sure when it broke the surface, but it's there!

6 Month Visit

Your six month well baby visit was today and you did so great! You had to get lots of shots but you were very brave and barely cried. I don't think even a whole second passed before you stopped crying.
You now weigh 16.7 pounds and are 26.5 inches long!

Peachy!

You had peaches tonight and looooooved them! You kept trying to grab the spoon and raised your head like a baby bird wanting more.

Your six month appointment is tomorrow and I can't wait to find out how much you've grown since your four month appointment.

Watching your doggies

First real illness

We thought your discomfort & irritability was because of teething, but you have your first viral infection. :( You had a low grade fever yesterday and were a little unhappy, but we attributed it to teething since there was also an awful lot of drool & gnawing on our fingers. Your daddy was home with you today & your temperature went up a bit so he took you to the pediatrician. They pricked your finger to do a little blood test and determined that you have a viral infection. I'm staying home with you tomorrow and my plan is for us to cuddle all day!

Hurricane Irene

We're currently awaiting the effects of Hurricane Irene. So far, it's been a pretty uneventful & rainy day. The weather is supposed to get worse as the night goes on but hopefully your first hurricane will be nice to us!

New sounds and smiles

Today you started making raspberry-type noises and giving us these big, bright smiles where you scrunch up your face. It's so fun to see you try new things all by yourself! The raspberries and smiles crack us up!

You also love your jumperoo now! You bat at the animals, jump up and down, and giggle almost the whole time.

We took down your baby swing today too. I was a little sad when I was taking it apart, but you've graduated from that to your highchair! You're not eating anything yet, but you now sit at the table with us.

The big quake

We had an earthquake today! You won't remember it but I will never forget it! I was so sad to be at work and away from you but you were in good hands at Miss Harmony's. Our house wasn't damaged and I think the only thing that toppled over was a water glass. The earthquake was 5.8 and we had an aftershock of 4.2 around 8pm. You were already in bed and I was on my way up to grab you and hide under something, but the tremors stopped before I even got to the stairs. Things like this make me really hate working so far from home!

Swimming!

You went swimming for the first time today at Nana and Pappy's house. I was a little nervous because the water was a little cold, but you didn't even flinch! You kicked around in your little floaty and had a great time. You start swimming 'lessons' in a few weeks and I can't wait! You are a little fish already. :)

Magical Moment

You really didn't want to go to sleep tonight so I sang a few songs to try to help you get sleepy. I sang "You Are My Sunshine" to you and there was this perfect moment where we just stared at each other as I sang. I will never forget it.

Family Trip

We went to Pennsylvania over the weekend so we could all go to Ali and Adam's wedding reception. We had a fun party dress for you to wear but it was so warm outside that we stuck with a pretty cotton dress instead. You got to meet lots of family members from your Pappy's side of the family. Everyone loved you and you were such a good sport when people were grabbing at you to give you hugs and kisses!

You took lots of naps in Nana and Pappy's arms. They love holding you and rocking you to sleep.

Giggles!

You giggled for the first time today! Your daddy was watching Rocky Horror Picture Show and you and I danced around. You loved it and we both got to hear your amazing little baby laugh for the first time. <3

First day of "school"!!!

Auntie Erin!

You met your Auntie Erin this weekend. She came to visit us from Michigan and the two of you instantly bonded. She loves you already!

Another first - for you and daddy!

Your daddy gave you a bottle for the first time today!

Bottle time!

You had your first bottle today and you were a pro! I did a trial run since your dad will be with you alone for the first time on Monday while I'm at the salon! :)

Party in my crib!

You slept in your crib for the first time last night without any problem or fuss. Considering that you've been lately averaging six consecutive hours at night, last night's seven hour stretch was impressive! We did trial runs (naps) a few times but this was your first full night and it went 100x smoother than expected.

We made the drive back from Pappy & Nana's yesterday. Once again, you were awesome! Our normal 3.5 hour drive took almost five hours, but you slept through almost the whole trip and didn't cry once. THANK YOU.

Aunt Keri

You met your Aunt Keri for the first time today. She came to visit us from New York and stayed all weekend. She held you as much as she could and you fell asleep in her arms more than once.

Nap monster

You really don't like to take afternoon naps. You will eventually give in because you're so tired, but the nap may only last for 20-40 minutes. Believe me, I'm not complaining since you sleep 6-8 hours straight at night. THANK YOU. Friends tell me that their child didn't sleep that long until they were 12 months old or that they *still* don't sleep that long. You are amazing!

You're sleeping in your crib for the first time (right now!). You really seem to like stretching out your arms and legs.

You slept for eight hours tonight. You are an awesome baby!

Paci paci paci!!

You just started taking to the pacifier this week. You really didn't want anything to do with it before, but now seem to really like the option - especially in the evening before bedtime. We don't want you to depend on one to go to sleep...so far, so good! We're pretty sure that you'll be sucking your thumb (when you find it) because you already suck on your hand when you're upset. Whatever helps comfort you is okay with us!

Figuring it out

We brought your rock'n'play sleeper out to the kitchen so you could chill and we could eat breakfast. You figured out that you could make yourself rock if you kicked your legs! You were very pleased with yourself too; you'd kick, rock, and smile. It's sooooo cool to see you figure things out already.

Your First Easter

We celebrated your first Easter with Meemaw and your Grandpop. We went to church and then out for lunch afterwards...and you slept through almost everything. :) You looked so cute in your Easter dress from your Great Grandmom. I slept in one of the guest rooms with you in your little rock'n'play beside me and I just have to say that you are such a noisy sleeper! You grunt and squeal so much when you're sleeping. You got to meet your dad's best friend from high school, as well as his lovely family. Everyone loved you and Mia was so excited that she was allowed to hold you for a little while. Happy first Easter, little one!

Your six week growth spurt seems to be over. After about 8 hours of sleep in 24 hrs & lots of crying, you slept for 6.5 hours straight. Neither of us slept very much and both of us cried a lot, but we made it through together and with the help of your daddy. 6.5 hours is your longest stretch of sleep yet.

You are really starting to notice your hands. You watch them move and touch and grab things (usually my hair & necklace).

You already fit into some size 3 month clothes. Most of your newborn clothes don't fit now.

I'm pretty sure that you have a little dimple on your right cheek. Although to be fair, your nana is the one who first noticed it when you weren't even a week old!

You cooed and smiled at your daddy tonight & he told you that you made his day.

growth spurt?

I think you're going through a six week growth spurt and it's rough on both of us. You don't want to sleep which I know is why you're a fussy little girl. You never cry unless it's for the normal reasons, so seeing you so unhappy makes me so sad.

We did go out for lunch with daddy today and tried out Sake Thai again. You were there before, but you weren't born yet :) (the food was much better this time). You just hung out in your stroller and watched everything around you and then took a little cat nap when things got too boring. Since you hadn't really taken a good nap yet today, we went home so I could try to get you to sleep. Daddy went to the grocery store while you and I hung out on the couch.

Mornings and early afternoon to seem to be your favorite part of the day. You love seeing the sun stream through the blinds.

We gave you a bath and I tried to get you to go to sleep a little earlier than normal. You went right to sleep but then woke up again around 10pm (and I'm ashamed to admit this, Sydney, but I cried when I heard you cry. I knew you needed to sleep). You went right back to sleep after eating so that made me feel a bit better, but I was afraid that you'd be up every hour or two because of the growth spurt. We'll see...
